Denim Dungaree Outfit Ideas Working From Home Denim

Publish date: 2024-10-06

Calling all 90s fashion fans - dungarees are back. (Did they ever actually go anywhere?)

And this week's case study comes via the ever-stylish Alexa Chung, who posted a picture from lockdown on Instagram wearing a pair.

While Alexa's caption - "Hands up if you remembered to shower and get dressed today" - was celebrating a (v applaudable) self-hygiene victory during these turbulent times, our interest was piqued more by the clothes she'd put on afterwards. It got us thinking, is there any better outfit for working from home?

Sure, pyjamas are tempting, but this utility look is both comfortable and appropriate to wear in public during your brief lunchtime walk for fresh air.

You can drop a strap à la Sofia Richie (scroll down for that ref.) when you're rattling off emails in full work-flow, before quickly re-attaching it every time that video conference call icon rings for a more professional look. And, hey, if both straps are unattached by 5pm and it's more of a jean-with-flapping-bib, who's judging? Certainly not your boss, who's on the other side of town.

Layering her denim dungarees over an olive knitted roll-neck, Alexa gave a nod to nostalgia once more via plastic accessories that took the shape of a sky blue hair clip and a beaded necklace.

And while the sneak peek gave us only a glimpse at the main event, we spied a zip fastening to the front of the dungarees, raising questions as to whether this may, in fact, be a dungaree dress. Either way, we're into it.

From Alexa Chung to Princess Diana - via the front row and hottest catwalks at Fashion Week - this childhood staple has been resurrected time and time again for decades, whether in classic stonewash denim or cute printed pinafore dresses.
