Phoebe Tonkin's throwback photos show her partying with alcohol and cigarettes

She rose to fame playing Cleo Sertori in the Australian television series H2O: Just Add Water.

But Phoebe Tonkin, 31, was clearly drinking more than just water in recently resurfaced photos taken during her years as a party-loving youngster. 

The throwback images, which were posted on Instagram on Thursday by controversial account Celeb Spellcheck, show the actress partying with female friends and posing with alcohol and cigarettes.

Looking every inch the rebellious teenager, Phoebe was seen pulling an array of animated poses while dressed in party attire.

Clutching another cigarette, The Vampire Diaries star closed her eyes and leaned her head onto her friend's shoulder.  

Phoebe first made a name for herself in Australia appearing in H2O: Just Add Water before moving overseas to pursue an international career in 2011.

She has since appeared in a number of big-name TV shows, including The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Westworld and Bloom. 

The actress is back in Australia filming new Stan series Transfusion alongside Avatar star Sam Worthington. 

In the series, Sam will star as Ryan Logan, a former special forces operative, who is battling to cope with life after the loss of his wife. 

Phoebe will portray his wife Justine.
